About us

Our Beginnings

Brais Malouin and Associates (BMA) was founded in March, 1991 in Montreal, by Normand Brais, P. Eng., M.Sc.A., Ph.D. Initially R&D director at an American industrial burner manufacturer, he then moved on to the position of professional research associate at Polytechnique Montréal, where he joined the research program at Gaz Metropolitain, which then became the Natural Gas Technology Center.

Major advances, resulting from the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics, led him to co-found a new company which manufactures very low NOx industrial boilers: National Combustion Equipment (NATCOM).  Thanks to the discovery of several new concepts via CFD, the Natcom burners revolutionized the North American Industrial burner market. This new combustion technology significantly reduced atmospheric pollutant emissions such as NOx, while producing less than 9ppm with natural gas.

Dr. Brais subsequently resumed his role as a consultant in combustion and energy engineering at BMA. He was supported by a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, developing expertise tailor made to respond to the needs and constraints of tomorrow.

Today

We are an engineering consulting firm specialized in energy, combustion, heat transfer, and energy efficiency. We use precision tools like Numerical Simulation, or Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Over the years, we have executed many major projects across a variety of sectors with high energy demands, including power generation plants, the oil and gas industry, mining & metals, petrochemicals, and pulp & paper.

We can step in at any phase of an ongoing project, from the initial feasibility studies, to the final steps of start-up.

BMA has been a pioneer in several R&D projects, developing new and innovative products in the energy field.

We have access to competencies and resources to better respond to our customers needs. The combined expertise of the engineers on our multidisciplinary team allows us to provide a full array of engineering services. We can support your projects through various processes: EPM, EPCM, on-site specialists, technical assistance and advice.

Our Commitment

BMA devotes its expertise to the service of its clients, in both the public and private sectors, in order to provide the advice and support necessary to ensure the success of their projects. Our consulting engineers use the strategic competencies and technical expertise acquired through their work on similar projects to develop innovative solutions adapted to any situation.

BMA’s mission is to combine our expertise and know-how in energy engineering, combustion, and numerical simulation, to develop innovative, environmentally friendly, and cost effective solutions for our clients.

BMA has built long term relationships on a base of trust and confidence, with clients, partners and suppliers alike.

Professional and personal growth of our employees, strong team spirit, cultural openness, respect for commitments are at the center of BMA’s core values.
